Mariposa Creamery is a micro-dairy at the historic Zane Grey Estate in the suburban neighborhood of Altadena, in the foothills north east of Los Angeles. We keep approximately 10 Nubian goats, milk them by hand, and make a variety of cultured milk products including cheeses.
Our cheeses are not for sale, but we’d love to teach you how to make your own dairy products from high-quality & cruelty-free milk you can buy at the store. Most of our classes are offered through the Institute of Domestic Technology and you can register online at their site.
We are also in the process of expanding our farm onto the other side of the San Gabriel Mountains. To learn more about this project, visit Angeles Crest Creamery.
The Zane Grey Estate is a private residence, so the Creamery is not open to the public. We do give tours both as part of our classes and for organized groups like local schools.
We have day jobs, own a restaurant in Claremont called The Press, and are building a restaurant in Altadena called Bar Altadena. One of us is an LA County Master Food Preserver. The other is a physicist.
