Simple Reason

The reason is far simpler than all the theories of conspiracy. This village of 149 people is in the middle of the U.S. National Radio Silence Zone. Scientists need this area to target research satellites, as a result, no personal electronic devices emitting electromagnetic waves can be used here. In other words, no radio, no TV, no wireless internet, no cell phones, and no Bluetooth connection. The largest reversible radio telescope all over the world is built in the village of Green Bank. And to keep the telescope running smoothly, the city authorities completely banned electronic devices. The streets are even walked by a police officers with a wireless signal finder.

Radio communication is the only way of technologies that is allowed for emergency services. There is one fixed payphone in the village, and it must be used by all the people. There is also internet in the village, but it works differently. If you are old enough, you might remember the days when there was nothing better than the dial-up technology. So, the little village of Green Bank still lives in those good and old days without burning businesses on the email.

The Daily Life

There is no need to say that these restrictions make it very difficult for the local people to live in these modern times when they must be totally disconnected. However, the interesting fact is that since the middle of the last decade, the population of the village has been growing because people who think they are hypersensitive to electromagnetic waves and radiation are moving to this electromagnetic-free village. It is important to note that, this condition has not yet been recognized and approved by the worldwide medical community. People who think that they have hypersensitive to electromagnetic waves are suffering from headache. This headache might be caused by other health conditions or illness. However, if people feel better after choosing just to move this place, let it be.
